April Fool

Puppy Love

April Fools day seems like great opportunity for a brand to show its playful side. Google’s pigeon was really funny back in 2002 but now I’m just not sure what I think. Today so far I have seen BMW and Expedia’s offerings. But I didn’t stumble upon these in a funny, is this a joke moment, it was via Brand Republic (at 9.30am may I add. We have barely had time to drink our coffee and realise it April 1st) Kind of missing the point maybe? Perhaps I’m just being cynical. Either way I can’t decide if its still funny or maybe just a bit obvious and tired now.

We’re not cool or crap anymore. Honest.

Actually Renault, no, I don’t.

Odd advert. Maybe Renault are trying to target a new consumer because of that recession thing by reinforcing their reliability, but seems they have deserted their previous, ‘We’re French, aren’t we cool’ approach to a more we used to be crap but now we’re safe and boring. Talk about a confused above the line message.

Just Checking My Digital Social Life

A friend was borrowing my laptop yesterday and said:

“…I’m just gonna check how my digital social life is looking’

Firstly, it made me laugh! Brilliant! Then it got me thinking about online personality and the ability to create any persona you like.

The Web makes it possible for anyone to create personality, image and style. More and more people are sharing their emotions, thoughts and personal details online and unusual as this may seem, to some people it’s increasingly becoming the norm.

You could say that people are becoming like brands or better, brands are becoming like people.

Online, brands want to start a conversation with people just like people want to start a conversation with other people. The Web is all about sharing information, ideas and discovering new things.

Online, and consequently offline products have their own social life. Making it more important than ever to see what state the product’s current social life is in, when creating any kind of advertising campaign.
